Why Doula

The desire for doulas is increasing as we begin to acknowledge the physical and psychological benefits of birth support. There has been recent loud recognition amongst health organizations world wide supporting labor companionship and its correlation with improved quality care through pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. Each doula’s practice is unique, just as each birthing person’s pregnancy and birth is unique. I lead my practice with ongoing curiosity, honesty, trust, open dialogue, and flexibility. I look forward to supporting your vision of what an empowered birth experience means to you, your baby, and your family.

Who I Am

A lover of all things growing, my curiosities about wellness have planted me in the field of women’s health. Growing up surrounded by women and pregnant bellies, my awe of pregnancy fostered a deep appreciation for birthing bodies and the power they carry. I am an instinctive nurturer driven by a deep commitment to aid women in embracing their biology, along with their dreams of healthy, fulfilling, positive, and pleasurable birth experience.

My degree in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine helped me come to a beautiful understanding of our relationship to environment, community, and health. In my off time, my garden is my sanctuary and my playground—I believe reconnecting to the land works in tandem with reconnecting to our bodies. I have worked as a farmer, gardener, educator, and childcare provider over the last 10 years. My experience working with the land and with families has rooted my passion in supporting women through birth, under a commitment to nurturance, deep respect, and embodied empowerment.

Why I Do This Work

Every person deserves the right to a fulfilling, fully informed, consent based birth. Having the support of an informed, compassionate doula can help bolster your vision to achieve a safe, healthy, empowered birthing experience. Reconnecting parents with their intuition, along with sacred resources of birth knowledge and community are the ingredients to a better world. This is a collective journey we are all a part of.  By supporting birthing bodies and families, we are supporting the wellbeing of the world.

What I Believe In

We are told pregnancy and childbirth are things that happen to women. My perspective is driven by the biological fact that birthing is something that women do. Finding ways to instill confidence, autonomy, and intrinsic physiologic knowledge into the hearts of birthing people and their babies is fundamental in fostering a future of compassion, love, and lifelong health.

When I work with you I employ emotional and physical practices I have garnered from my trainings, in addition to my own life experiences, to cater to your birth vision. I believe no birthing person should be spoken for, and commit myself to the roles of the informant, advocate, comforter, and coach. I encourage you to trust your body and intuition; ultimately this is what’s right for you and your baby.

Your support should reflect that.
